Avery Mackenzie, YOU ROCKED IT, GIRL!!! On Wednesday, we went for your one month visit. You were officially 5 weeks 1 day....(adjusted 2 weeks 1 day). We got you undressed to weigh you and Mike and I were discussing we would be happy with 6 lb. and we think TOPS 6-6.5 lbs. We laid you down and I about squealed with excitement....SEVEN POUNDS!!!! Did you hear, WE NOW HAVE A SEVEN POUND BABY!!!! Mike and I were so ecstatic. So was Dr. Webb! And we adore him. He comes in exclaiming he couldn't find a little five pound preemie he saw last visit....oh wait, THERE SHE IS!!!
Needless to say, we are not worried about your weight. He didn't even need to know how many oz. or how often you were eating because clearly whatever we were doing was working. You also have grown 2 inches and now are a whooping 20 inches. You now actually look like a normal size newborn baby!
You got your 2nd dose of the Hep B. vaccination. You did great. You gave a whine for all of ten seconds then you were fine. You did have a strong grip on daddy's finger during and for at least 3 minutes after. You weren't letting go. We are sorry, precious!
We are just going to continue watching your spit up/reflux, since even though you projectile spit up, we obviously are not worried about you not getting enough nutrition (which is when he likes to medicate).
We really could not have asked for a better visit. On other fronts, you are now smiling and grinning. It melts our hearts. You have the sweetest smile. This morning, you and I have been playing a game. You will half way spit your pacifier out, try your hardest to get it back in your mouth, whine for a second, I put it back in your mouth and you grin from ear to ear. We have probably done this 50 times this morning.
You are the most content baby....you go with the flow, no matter what we are doing. The only time you cry (well it is more like whining) is when your either hungry, got a dirty diaper, or your tummy/reflux is bothering you. Other than that, you are such a happy baby.
You sleep well. We do a bath then bottle starting at 8. You are asleep and in your crib by 9pm. Usually you wake up twice to eat, around 11-12 then 3-4. Around 6am you wake up to eat, and you would stay awake and start your day if I let you. However, we do our morning snuggles on the couch and both sleep for another hour or two. We can lay you down before your fully asleep and you can put yourself to sleep. Can we ask for an easier baby??
On a side note, five weeks after delivery and we have my blood pressure under control, we think. I am on Procardia XL 90mg and my BP is now 122/84. We are continuing to watch it now to make sure it doesn't bottom out too low, since BP often returns to normal On its own after preeclampsia and pregnancy-induced hypertension. Even if this is a fight I have to battle the rest of my life, at least we finally found a drug and dose that works for now. Huge relief and answer to prayers!
We love you so much, sugar, and continuously thank God for you. You are such a blessing and bring us so much JOY! We love you to the moon and back!

HAPPY ONE MONTH!!!
Avery Mackenzie, You are one month old today!! Happy Birthday, love bug!
You have stolen our hearts and we keep falling deeper in love with you. The past few days you have started smiling, and it melts my heart.
We go to the doctor next week, so I will update with your stats then, but you definitely are growing. Our little five pounder, now is a HEAVY bag of sugar! We are guessing you are 5 1/2-6 lbs. Not all, but SOME newborn cloths actually fit you now! We are still in preemie diapers, but today we finally graduated from the Pampers to the Huggies. (The Huggies Preemies are bigger than the Pampers Preemies) Woohoo! You will definitely be in preemies a little while longer...you still have plenty of room to grow into these before we can wear Newborns.
You are the easiest, most content baby. You absolutely love to be held! We bought you a crib wedge and the Nap Nanny Chill and you now sleep like a champ! We believe you may have Acid Reflux. It all started when I got mastitis and my milk dried up in a matter of hours. Sorry, sweet girl! However, We have finally found a formula that seems to be helping the reflux. Hopefully the formula and propping you up to sleep will do the trick. If not, we will discuss medicating you. I do not mind giving you a baby Zantac if it will help, but so far we seem to have gotten it under control. I do not wish the projectile spit up/vomit on anyone. Poor baby! And poor daddy, who it ended up in his hair, face, and every where else.
You were eating 4 oz. every 3-4 oz. but now with your reflux we have tried to feed you less, more frequently. Every 2 hours you eat 2 oz. At night, you were sleeping 4-5 hours, but now you are sleeping 2-4 hour stretches. We don't mind though, since you are feeling better. You will usually take a 3-4 oz. bottle once during the day and once at night. You are just a little peanut!!
I know we have been slacking with the blog...I promise I will try to be better. Here are a few from the past month...
This was 1/22...your first time at church. You slept the entire time and Ms. Dianna held you. I think you won everyone over. One of the points of the sermon brought up the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." I pray as you grow into a young woman this will be a life verse to you - that you will be compassionate and loving to others, no matter who they are or what they have done.
On 1/24, you had your first bath. As soon as we put you into the tub, you pooped! I know, so traumatic! We had to take you out, drain the water, and start all over again. We put you back in and you screamed bloody murder for most of it. We finally calmed you enough with a warm wash cloth and pacifier. You now, love baths! It's funny how quickly things change.
You found your fingers, and you aren't too sure about them!!
You and your friend...I don't think you are too sure about her either!
You are smiling now!!! You have the sweetest little smile!
We love you so much, Avery! You are perfect and absolutely wonderful. We are so lucky we are your parents...you are such a blessing! Mama and daddy love you, sugar butt!
